Roleplaying phenomenon Critical Role first aired on Geek & Sundry's Twitch channel in 2015 with the story of Vox Machina. The success of those streams has led to a massive and dedicated fan base, merch, comic books, and even an animated series .Currently, the show is in the middle of campaign 2, with the Mighty Nein drawing in old and new Critters alike. With fans eager to learn and the cast happy to share (some) thoughts about their characters, there are few things most Critters don't already know. But for the more casual fan, there might be a few things they missed about their favorite characters. Read on, but be warned, there are spoilers for both campaigns in this list of 10 things you didn't know about Critical Role characters.

10 Jester Has Been In 2 Other D&D Games In 2016

Campaign 2 of Critical Role began on November 1, 2018, marking the return of the cast and the introduction of The Mighty Nein. Well, an introduction for all but one little blue tiefling. Laura Bailey's cleric of The Traveler, Jester, had been in two other D&D games before Campaign 2 aired.

One was a GameSpot Livestream game in 2016, and the other a Critical Role/Kinda Funny crossover game on The GameOverGreggy Show. Laura was joined by Travis and Marisha, along with Matt who acted as DM for both games.

9 Mollymauk Was Taliesin's 2nd Character For Campaign 1

Taliesin's first character for campaign 2 was Mollymauk Tealeaf, a tiefling Bloodhunter, who lost his life through the combination of his own Blood Maledict ability and an attack from an enemy. Molly was many things, but most fans might not have known that he was originally a character Taliesin would have used if Percy had died permanently.

In an interview with D&D Beyond Taliesin reveals that after Percy's first death he started "thinking up a new character". He would have had Molly come to town in a carnival telling stories "of the Terrible Tinkerer of Tal'Dorei".

8 Orly Was Created During A Special Livestream

Throughout both campaigns, Matt has created NPCs that the cast and the fandom both love. And one of the most memorable NPCs of campaign 2 is Orly Skiffback, a tortle Bard sailor. Orly was first introduced in Nicodranas while The Mighty Nein looked for a navigator for The Mistake.

For fans who don't watch the special episodes, they might not have released that Orly is a character collaboration between Matt and the Critter community. During the "Fireside Chat & NPC Build with Matthew Mercer" Matt used suggestions from Twitter and the live chat to create the character that Orly is today.

7 Whose Name Is Written On The List's Sixth Barrel?

The List was the first gun Percy had made, created by the influence of the shadow demon Orthax. It was a six-barrel pepperbox pistol, with two enchanted barrels that could shoot magical bullets. The gun's name came from the inscriptions on five of the barrels, the names of people Percy wanted vengeance against.

It was a common fan theory that the sixth barrel was intended for Percy, but during the "Talks Machina: Campaign Wrap-Up", Taliesin revealed that the blank barrel represented the creation of a new list. Coincidently, both he and Matt came up with the idea that if Percy killed all the people on the list, more would continue to appear in an endless cycle.

6 The Traveler Isn't The Same One From Eberron

The Traveler is a mysterious green cloaked deity who is Jester's patron. Not much is known about him, in-game or even out of the game. But what Critters can be sure of is that The Traveler in Campaign 2 isn't the same deity as the one in Eberron.

Eberron is a campaign setting for D&D and The Traveler is apart of a pantheon called the Dark Six. During episode 53 of Talks Machina, Matt confirms that Jester's patron and The Traveler of Eberron are not the same and that Jester's Traveler might not necessarily be a god at all.

5 Fey Vex

During the Feywild arc when Vox Machina went in search of Fenthras, they also found Saundor, an archfey who was corrupting the Shademurk Bog. Saundor took a special interest in Vex and wanted to establish a bond with her, offering power in exchange for her heart. Vex ultimately told him no, with an arrow to the chest, but Matt had prepared for the possibility of her saying yes.

Written in notes from a "Behind the Screen" short Matt was in, Vex would have become a Fey/plant creature and would have been loaned Fenthras. In the Fireside Chat - Talks Machina Matt also revealed that Saundor would have bound himself to Vex as her patron for the rest of the campaign.

4 Fjord Started With A Different Accent In Session 0

Since the beginning Fjord has shown great skill in doing voices. One of his biggest (and emotional) moments for him was when he revealed that the southern accent he had wasn't his true one, and was just him trying to emulate his mentor Vandran. What most Critters probably don't know is that Fjord had a completely different accent from the ones he's shown in the game.

Sort of. In an interview with D&D Beyond, Travis mentions that during session 0 he spoke in his normal voice as Fjord. He found himself bored with it and picked up using a "deep Southern drawl", that he had used for a video game a few weeks earlier.

3 Caleb Used To Be Lawful Evil

Caleb has gone to great lengths to keep some of the darker parts of his past from most of the Mighty Nein. Critters know a few things so far, that Caleb was once a student of Trent Ikithon and Ikithon's influence led him to kill his family.

Liam O'Brien sheds a little more light on the wizard's past via a tweet when fans mentioned ideas they had on Caleb's alignment. He states that Caleb used to be Lawful Evil before and after his "break" but had shifted to True Neutral during the campaign.

2 Cassandra's Fate While Under The Briarwoods

One of the most memorable arcs in Campaign One is the Briarwood Arc where the cast digs deep into Percy's tragic backstory. It'll also be the arc that gets animated in The Legend of Vox Machina. Along with Sylas and Delilah Briarwood, the animated series will mostly feature Cassandra de Rolo as well, Percy's younger sister. During the "Fireside Chat - Talks Machina" Matt reveals what Cassandra went through after she was left behind by Percy.

She was nursed back to health by Whitestone citizens then discovered by the Briarwoods' lackeys who took her back the castle. She was forced to watch the execution of her family and suffered at the Briarwoods' hands physically and psychology, eventually becoming brainwashed and developing Stockholm Syndrome.

1 An NPC Would Have Aided Vox Machina In Defeating Saundur

Matt has created hundreds of NPCs during both campaigns. Some take on larger roles and become like Allura or Pumat. And others are only mentioned briefly and never show up again. One of those NPCs was Wodena, a hag from the Feywild. But she could have taken on a much larger role and had a bigger impact on the events that happen while Vox Machina was in the Feywild.

It was revealed during the "Behind the Screen" short though Matt's notes that he had planned for Vox Machina to meet Wodena. She would have given them clues as to how to defeat Saundur without going into combat, though with a price.
