Princess Zipp Storm, full name Zephyrina Storm, is a female Pegasus pony and one of the main characters of My Little Pony: A New Generation and My Little Pony Generation 5. She is a princess of Zephyr Heights, Pipp Petals' older sister,[note 1] Queen Haven's eldest daughter, and the heiress to the Zephyr Heights throne.
Development and design
Zipp Storm was designed by character artist Celia Kaspar.[1] Hasbro filed a trademark for the name "Zipp Storm" with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on February 25, 2021.[2]
Depiction in A New Generation
In My Little Pony: A New Generation, Zipp first appears doing parkour and stunts on the mountains outside Zephyr Heights. She runs into Sunny Starscout and Izzy Moonbow, surprised to see an Earth pony and unicorn traveling together. When Zipp sees a pair of royal guards approaching, she quickly runs away.
Zipp meets Sunny and Izzy again when they are brought before her, her sister Pipp Petals, and their mother Queen Haven. When Sunny asks Haven questions about magic, she orders her and Izzy to be imprisoned in the castle dungeons. Zipp visits Sunny and Izzy in the dungeons and learns that unicorns have no magic. She frees them from their cell, leads them to an abandoned station for hot-air balloons, and reveals that Pegasi cannot fly - not even the royal Pegasus family as civilians believe.
Zipp teams up with Sunny and Izzy to acquire two magical crystals in an effort to bring magic back to Equestria. They steal the first - the Pegasus Crystal - from Queen Haven, but in the process, they accidentally expose Zipp's family as non-flying frauds. Zipp, Sunny, and Izzy are subsequently joined in their quest to bring back magic by Pipp and Sunny's childhood friend Hitch Trailblazer.
Zipp and her friends acquire the Unicorn Crystal in Bridlewood, but nothing happens when it is joined together with the Pegasus Crystal. Sunny returns to Maretime Bay in failure and despair, but Zipp and the others follow out of a desire to stay friends with her. Upon arriving, they get swept up in Hitch's deputy Sprout's destructive plot to wage war against unicorns and Pegasi. After Sunny succeeds in bringing the three pony races together, Zipp and her new friends happily welcome a new age of friendship and magic.
Other depictions
Zipp is featured in the film's book adaptations, including My Little Pony: A New Adventure, My Little Pony: Ponies Unite, the My Little Pony Annual 2022, and My Little Pony: Story of the Movie.
Zipp also appears in the 2D animated YouTube web series My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale, which is set after the events of A New Generation. She is also set to appear in the upcoming CGI-animated Netflix special My Little Pony: Make Your Mark, as well as three planned subsequent Netflix specials, and a related, on-going Netflix original animated series. Additionally,Zipp will be featured in the upcoming My Little Pony comic book series, as published by IDW Publishing.
Merchandise
Toys of Zipp Storm include the articulated 3-inch Crystal Adventure Zipp Storm and 6-inch Sparkles Adventure Zipp Storm toys, each of which come with various accessories. 3-inch Zipp figures are also part of the Movie Friends and Best Movie Friends toylines and included in the 2021 Unicorn Party Celebration and Royal Gala Collection sets, a 6-inch Zipp figure is included in the Shining Adventures Collection set, and mini-figures of Zipp are included in the Snow Party Countdown and Friendship Shine Collection sets.
Personality
Zipp is a fearless and independent thrill-seeker. Defiant of her royal lineage and responsibilities, she prefers to engage in athletic and high-flying activities like parkour, even though she is initially unable to fly. Like Sunny Starscout, Zipp wants magic to return to Equestria so that Pegasi can fly like they were originally able to, and she is even willing to defy her mother and work together with Earth ponies and unicorns to make it happen.
Zipp's research into and knowledge of Equestria's distant past, coupled with equations she uses for flight theory, suggests she also has an intellectual side. She also demonstrates a tendency to be snarky and sarcastic. Zipp's mother Queen Haven's expectations of her as the heiress to the Zephyr Heights throne causes them to have a somewhat strained relationship, but she is very close with her sister Pipp.
Zipp is far more humble than her mother or sister, insisting to Sunny and Izzy that they call her by her name rather than use her royal title.
In the Tell Your Tale shorts Zipp Gets Her Wings and Sisters Take Flight, Zipp is shown to be uncomfortable when she's placed in the spotlight. In Welcome to Mane Melody, she dislikes the idea of having her mane styled – though she allows Pipp to style it by the end of the short.

Notes
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Pipp and Zipp are stated to be twins in the My Little Pony Movie Sticker Activity Book, but most other official materials state Zipp to be the older sister, and according to Gillian M. Berrow, they are "not twins."
